Jim indicated 'it occurred to him' that the issue might be dyslexia but he did not mention it, instead finding it more politic to mention 'boozed up' or 'sloppy'? What kind of flat-footed form of courtesy is it, to openly surmise someone else might be 'drunken' or 'lazy' yet at the same time hesitate to mention the word 'dyslexic' for fear of offending? "Dyslexic" certainly has no pejorative connotation among anyone with even the rudiments of an education.

If anything, gaining an engineering degree while overcoming dyslexia implies a considerable compliment to that persons will and intelligence.

Does anyone think C1ue suggesting I'm being undiplomatic represents an objective comment here while omitting any mention of what prompted it? What rubbish. Sorry to sound off Jimmygu3, but maybe someone could tell C1ue to take in the whole context before offering recommendations on courtesy, and indeed, to worry less about Mike's sensibilities - Miker can look after himself just fine.

I think you were right to come to the defense (or defence, as this thread was started by and Englishman) of Mega against the insensitive comments Jim Nickerson made. I was about to do the same before I read your comments, which said everything I would have said and more.

Regardless of whether Mega Mike is upset or not over your release of his personal details, C1ue is right that in principle it was the wrong way to go about it. Perhaps a PM to Mega asking for permission would have been in order.

For example, imagine that you told me privately that you are a lawyer who does pro bono work to help orphans with cancer [note: hypothetical]. If someone accused you of being a selfish person in a public forum, I might try to defend you by telling everyone what you do for a living. It then might be a simple process for someone with bad intentions to search for lawyers named Luke in your area who do that type of work. Then it would also be a simple process to find your home address.

Point being, reveal your own personal details but not other people's. Thanks for your concern for your friend Mike.
