Beijing and Damascus have agreed that the Chinese military will provide humanitarian aid to Syria, a high-ranking People's Liberation Army officer said, adding that the training of Syrian personnel by Chinese instructors has also been discussed.

Director of the Office for International Military Cooperation of China's Central Military Commission, Guan Youfei, arrived in Damascus on Tuesday for talks with Syrian Defense Minister Fahad Jassim al-Freij, Chinese Xinhua news agency reported.

During the negotiation, Guan noted China’s consistent diplomatic efforts to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis, adding that Beijing is now seeking closer military ties with Damascus.

"The Chinese and Syrian militaries traditionally have a friendly relationship, and the Chinese military is willing to keep strengthening exchanges and cooperation with the Syrian military," he said.

Guan and al-Freij discussed the enhancement of training and"reached a consensus" on the Chinese military providing humanitarian aid to Syria, Xinhua reported, without providing further details.

According to the agency, Guam also met with a Russian general during his visit to the Syrian capital.

The neocons running Obama's foreign policy won't stop untill they kill us all, the crazy powermad bastards. I fully expect they have this Strangelovian death wish for a final solution to their Russia and China problem, relishing the prospect of life in the bunker.

Maybe Hillary is just looking to the New Cold War as a redux of Reagan's phenomally successful experiment with Military Keynesianism in Cold War I? The Times doesn't call her a hawk for nothing.

I have every expectation that her better angels are in conflict with the war devils inside. I'm sure she thinks she is smart enough to ride this tiger into history, restoring something of a domestic economy while poking the bear back into the hegemonic zoo as just another cage in the menagerie. I think she underestimates the religious zeal of the neocons to immanentize their Straussian New Jerusalem, whatever the cost it will be worth it.

I think she overestimates her ability to resist the siren song of global war because Hillary as FDR makes for such a nice legacy and World War III solves so many problems vexing our famously enlightened business, banking and political elites. I see it differently. Trump is primarily a businessman, just as most of us on this forum are. Cold war is bad for business. Trump will renegotiate the trade agreements with China and whatever is good for America, will be good for China and the world in the long run. In business, you won't kill off your golden goose, which is what is happening right now as the bankers are bleeding the US dry.

If status quo continues, California or Texas will declare independence. Why pay to support the bankers' wars and for food stamps for the rest of America?

doesn't that depend on what business you're in? the defense industry, newly protected domestic industries, lots of tech will do great with a cold war. businesses with complicated international supply chains will tighten them and perhaps onshore some of the production.
