Sure, the "whoa there" (I think you cousins say "phoar") experience on the showroom is always powerful, but after age 40 you'd think a fellow like Mr. Depp would have understood enough about the depreciation and opportunity costs associated with these luxury triple-F models. As lovely as they are, they are a handful and tempermental as hell. Of course, for some that's all part of the fun.

Only had he leased instead of going through the formalities of ownership, at best he'd be looking at an early termination fee or maybe even had found someone to assume the lease for him. But as it stands he may have to cover the entire costs of the existing model and his upgrade. How many times can a man make the same mistakes, one wonders?

Ah "W" my old friend..............you are of course 110% right.
However....the problem is "Fame"..........unless your the ex star of 2 & a half men & don't give a flying f*ck about your rep-u-tate-ion (your work stream remember), you can't "Rent".

If he been say an board member of Apple or Microsoft (not in the public eye) then "Rent" option IS the one to go for.

Sadly after what happened to "Paul" (at lest he didn't get shot like John) with the 1 legged woman (I think he paid a £1 Million per shag). they all take note.............but no.

The primary factor in higher net worth is staying married to your first spouse.

(read: the law/rules dont apply to them in the celebrity class, kinda like the political+crony class..)

what eye read (on ZH) was that the judge made them make an apology video and that depp made her say stuff she likely didnt want to...

              Amen brother.
The story says two doctors were chatting in the hallway, and one was surprised his partner was retiring so young.
"How did you manage to accumulate enough money to retire so young?" ask the doctor.
"One house, one wife." said the other.

Mrs Thrifty and I have been married 28 years and she still sometimes introduces me as her first husband.
I intend to keep it that way.

You miss a lot of fun. And money you can't take to the other side.

Nice - sounds like she knows how to keep you on your toes!

At times, i think my wife's approach is to send me to an early grave, so called, "killing me with kindness". If she starts introducing me as her first husband, then I am going to start carrying around a defibrillator, anti venom, and an epi-pen around with me.

Can't win either way - an engineer putting kids through college, there's no "there" there!

Mrs. GRG55 and I are approaching our 27th and first time around for both of us as well (but we got married later in life than most, I was 34).

The "bunker" is actually her dream home in the country that I promised I would build for her. That protracted building process has had its challenges along the way (worse than doing a renovation, with which we also have too much experience, so you would think we would know better). Anyway, when she starts talking about "the next house" with our friends I remind her she will be building it with "her next husband".

I have made a habit of keeping a close watch on the amount of life insurance Mrs GRG55 is carrying on me. Any sudden and significant increase in the amount of coverage would be grounds for suspicion.

not for someone like johnny depp. do you think the financial outcome of this divorce, WHATEVER it might be, will change his life in any way? he can afford it.

my wife and i are still in our first house, which we designed. we both have an unhealthy attachment to it, and likely will stay in it as long as we are capable of climbing the stairs.

+1. First and only, 33 years, two great kids and we live in her dream house. I built my dream garage on another property as her dream house came with a standard issue two car garage. Her dream house also only supports one of my properly running cars parked on its property at a time and never has a non running vehicle, or some part of a non running vehicle over staying its welcome. My garage on the other hand has music which often plays too loud and at least one car parted out on jacks. When I get bored or want a change, I swap one of my cars out.
