If I had a nickel for every time someone says collapse is coming "this year"... I'd have a lot of nickels!

The pound is one of the most overvalued currencies in the world and will suffer next year as the Government ramps up spending cuts and uncertainty about Britain’s future in the EU weighs on growth.

Analysts at Deutsche Bank warned that the Bank of England may not be able to raise interest rates “at all” if Britain’s recovery slows.

It believes the pound could fall as low as $1.27 next year and $1.15 in 2017 from about $1.485 today if the US Federal Reserve continues to tighten monetary policy and the Bank of England leaves interest rates on hold.

“We have various different ways of looking at currency valuations and what we find is that sterling is the most expensive currency out there at the moment - even including the dollar,” said Oliver Harvey, foreign exchange strategist at Deutsche Bank. Earlier this year, the International Monetary Fund said the pound was between 5pc and 15pc overvalued.

Several Bank policymakers, including Governor Mark Carney and even hawkish rate-setter Martin Weale have played down the prospect of a rate rise in the next few months as a renewed fall in oil prices and weak wage growth keep inflation well below the Bank's 2pc target.

"Sterling is the most expensive currency out there at the moment, even including the dollar."
              Oliver Harvey, Deutsche Bank

Deutsche Bank said more fiscal consolidation next year relative to this year would make it “challenging” for the Bank of England to raise interest rates if austerity weighed on growth.
“[Since November] oil prices have fallen more and the inflation data are showing signs of slowing. So if we don’t have a hiking cycle in the first half of next year, there is a risk that we don’t have a hiking cycle at all.”
Markets currently expect the Bank to raise rates in January 2017. Mr Harvey said even if the Bank started to raise rates next year, the path of hikes would be much shallower than in the US, which would push sterling down to at least $1.40 against the dollar by the end of 2016.
Hamish Pepper, an analyst at Barclays, also warned that the Bank could kick rate rises into the long grass if “aggressive” spending cuts over the next three years hit consumption and weigh on growth. “Our core forecast is for Bank Rate to move higher in the middle of next year, but what we are increasingly trying to emphasise is that nothing could happen at all,” he said.
A YouGov survey last week showed household inflation expectations for 2015 were the lowest since records began in 2005. Michael Saunders, chief UK economist at Citi, said the “marked drop” had led to a “lower sense among employers and employees of what is a normal pay rise”
              .

Both Deutsche Bank and Barclays expect the euro to reach parity against the dollar by the end of next year as monetary policy in the US and eurozone continues to diverge.
Mr Harvey said political risks linked to Britain’s referendum on EU membership, which is due before the end of 2017, could make financing Britain’s “very wide” current account deficit, which stood at 3.7pc of GDP in the third quarter, difficult.

Deutsche Bank expects the single currency to “grind higher” against the pound over the next few years as a result.

After he wins by a landslide to rival Nixon/Reagan we'll be hard pressed to find any of our friends who'll admit to voting for him.

If so we might have to call it the first case of Immaculate Election.

I'm not sure one of my favorite TV programs was popular across the border but as soon as I read your idea it reminded me of the show Arrested Development. In one of the episodes called "The Immaculate Election", one of the main characters is running against a Donald Trump like character named Steve Holt. The character Steve Holt is the quintessential moron jock. When any thoughtful response is required he always raises his fists in the air and shouts, "STEVE HOLT!". The character is so Donald Trump like it's scary.

                        Available streaming on Netflix.

We don't own a television, and I have never downloaded a movie as the internet connection at the bunker is hopelessly slow.

My thought probably came from a combination of the basis for the current holiday season and the reference to Jesus in the picture at the bottom of Woodsman's posts.

but then.. they're usually on things like the prius (tesla) or accompanied by ones that say 'if you think education is expensive, try ignorance'

clearly making 'education' very expensive indeed.
