For me it's mostly overload. Mass shootings (I've seen thresholds of 3-5 victims for that definition) now average ~1 a day in the US. There isn't even enough time to ascertain the motive of each before the next one happens. It's just tough to keep up.
I had actually been considering whether it was worth posting a comparison of what was known for two previous recent ones when this one hit. Since a definitive motive hadn't been determined for both the ones I was planning to cover, I held off. This one's even newer, with even less known. (Though I'm sure there's no shortage of uninformed speculation in many media outlets.)
But as Shiny said, if you want a thread, by all means, start one! I wouldn't mind seeing some hard information, if someone happens to find any hidden in the media's mostly rumor-based detritus.
