The author makes a good case for the petrol (gasoline) direct injection turbocharged engine.
The article includes a graphic that applies to my current car and the one it replaced.

    In my case I replaced a naturally aspirated 3.2 L V6 at 225 hp with a 4 cylinder 2.0L Turbo GDI at 274 hp.
Love it. The new turbos are quiet and come on quickly with little lag.

It seems that there have been a few classic design sweet spots for the engines in family cars over the years.
Efficient, reliable engines for hauling children and groceries in sedans and small cargo loads in light trucks.

The V8 at about 300 or 350 cubic inches, naturally aspirated with a four barrel carburetor, in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

The 3 liter V6, naturally aspirated with intake manifold fuel injection, from the 1990s until recently

and now the 2 liter 4 cylinder, turbocharged with direct injection.

What car did you get, if I may ask? GDI turbos can be hard on oil. Make sure you use good oil and change it often enough. But you probably know that already...

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
