I papertrade for some small prizes/bets. I had some long puts into Oct. on AAPL for unrelated reasons. I sold them on Friday and doubled my money. This morning Dow was down 1,000 and the papertrade website datalink broke. Normally, I'd be kicking myself for not holding until Monday. Oh well. Lucky moment for bear plays even if you couldn't get out smooth at 10:00am with monopoly money.

I was all-in on Lean Hogs on account everything tastes better with bacon so how can that go wrong? And was going to let Mega et al in on it but then my iPhone rang and a friend in China told me how the Chinese Communist Party's pitbull North Korea was off the chain again but not in the usual way so maybe this doesn't blow over as usual or maybe the end of North Korea's brutal authoritarian regime is near with the U.S cuddling up to Cuba as the proximate cause of the crisis.

                  Re: Its all turning RED

The market was "broke" yesterday for about 30 minutes. I noticed some stocks and ETFs down 10% vym was at 64.50 on Friday's close, then was trading at 48.05. MCD was down to a 52 week low in a matter of seconds. Because of various incentives offered at various brokerage firms, I have an account at fidelity, merrill and vanguard. I was able to log into vanugard, but every time I pressed the order button, I got a server error. Merrill was completely unresponsive, fidelity was so slow, i was not sure if i was pressing buttons or what. I entered an order, but it never showed up in the orders page, then half an hour it showed up as executed. Then I saw vgsh - vanugard short treasury, was up 10%. no that it not a typo, I tried to selll that, but got some warning saying the price was out of limit .... whatever that means. The web sites became somewhat responsive about 10:00 AM EDT.

So I guess in a panic, you will not be able to get out/in a full blown panic with a retail brokerage account.

Next time I see that I will put is some super low ball offers before the market opens and see if they fill. After the flash crash of 2009? I was doing this often, but gave up after a few years of no flash crashes. It may be time to do this again.

I admire that you did that trade successfully. I've been saying apple was over priced for years, but never did anything about it.

Their products are OK, but does their profit and dividend record really justify the market cap? I don't think it does.

And their products are not as "smooth running" as the mythology says.

It's a tough one to time. Really a fool's errand. More hype than fundamentals. Ditto with TSLA and the rest of the 'fanboy' $B+ market cap monsters.

Buy there's a wave in their margins. It tends to bottom out between June and mid-August, get a school-year bump, then peak at Xmas, and slump back down. Doesn't mean the stock does anything of the sort. But climbing through the summer + China troubles + nothing worthwhile on the horizon + no budge in android market share...seemed like rolling the dice on puts out to Oct. were safe enough. Volatility gave me an easy early exit on that one.

Any thoughts on Silver here at $14. You made a great call with the top at $50, but where is the bottom? Thanks.
