  • Boehner says the billions spent on politics isn't that bad because...

Boehner dismissed the idea that special interests or gerrymandered congressional districts undercut what Washington does for the average citizen. And ditto for the billions of dollars that fuel the American political system.
"We spend more money on antacids than we do on politics," ...

What a jerk, how insensitive, self aggrandizing, can you get ...

Lets to some new math ....
3.8B spent on federal campaign / 535 people = 7.1 mil per person, no ... that won't persuade anyone
    vs
2B for antacids / 320 mill citizens = $6.25 per person. small price to pay for listening to this doofus.
Well after a let them eat cake remark like this, at least I can still afford the antacid.
Hey I got an idea, why don't these guys just shut up and send us a check for 11.87, and since I wont need as many
antacids because i don't have to listen to such drivel, by people controlling my life, i can by a big bag of cheese curls ... oh wait ....

At one point wasn't the president chosen by state legislators instead of a national election?

"Reducing the money" in politics just gives a bigger voice to those who don't have to pay for airtime. There's not a whole lot of "reform" that gets my support unless it's well though out.

National senators used to be chosen by state legislatures instead of state elections.

Agree with your second part. There seems to be a shortage of "well thought out" lately.
