"Coupled with the immigration provisions, the latest Startup Act would make permanent a complete exemption on capital gain taxes on investments held for at least five years in qualifying small businesses (those with less than $50 million in assets), create a research-and-development tax credit worth up to $250,000 for companies less than five years old, and require federal officials to conduct a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis of the likely effects on start-up companies when proposing new rules and regulations."

Speaking as a serial small business person I only have one little hyphenated word to describe that idea, "Cha-Ching". This is some serious red meat. And to think I felt a bit guilty taking Georgie's 15% while my wife paid almost 50% on...let's say, a bit less income. I am such a small thinker. Under this plan I would have just told my wife to retire, the taxpayers are paying our way baby, why would you be one of them?!

I just read this and I've figured out five ways to game it and I'm sure smart guys have figured out 100.

They are lying. There is NO STEM shortage. I work in the field. If we post a job we're flooded with "overqualified" applicants. We'd rather hire someone who can't do the job, than offer that same pay to someone who can do it. Figure that one out.

I'm OK with bringing new, younger talent into the company, we have to plan for the future, but to say there is a lack of STEM talent in the US is a bald faced lie.

It is similar to the "shortage" of MBAs but I hope the quality of a STEM education exceeds that being given to most MBAs.

My cynical read of the desire to bring in STEM folks from overseas is that it lowers the wages overall and more importantly, brings in potential consumers who have no or limited debt.

Who needs US citizens with STEM training that carry huge college loans? They can't be great consumers and they can't afford to buy houses.
