the news section is the great purgatory. Salvation is behind the pay wall. Here is just a load of conspiracy theory stuff, with good info sprinkled in-between

Divide and conquer, split and splinter. Whatevs, as the kids say. FWIW, I'm grateful for the petulant post since it gives me the opportunity to feel a pang of embarrassment for my own lapses into hubris.

Back to the point, I too would love to hear from EJ. What I really would love to see is the next deep article and look forward to renewing my Select membership once he posts it.

Woodsy, you're living under assumptions you built under the old iTulip paradigm. The articles now are big and far between but the seminal ideas, as they are being formed are shared and honed within the iTulip community. If your words are not empty and you would really love to hear from EJ...you'll keep your membership active.

Since his last official article EJ's posted almost 350 times and most of these posts are serious examinations of the various subjects he addresses. Most of the other posts are more like friendly, inside the family, discussions. If you want some metrics, he's posted about once every 18 hours since the last article at the end of January.

Personally, I would like to see EJ move to an annual iTulip report. Simple. Anyone can by it for $45 or so. Maybe buy it and converse with members on that thread for $75. Members would work with EJ over the year discussing and offering feedback and helping him hone his next annual report.

Sorry, I don't recall discussions of new paradigms. I'm sure they occurred and I was't paying sufficient mind to them. Then again it bears repeating that...

"Nothing on this website is intended or should be construed as investment advice. It is intended to be used for informational and entertainment purposes only. We reserve the right to make changes, including change in price, content, description, terms, etc. at any time without notice."
Respectfully, it's a web site, not a cult or a social club. There are many smart, experienced, thoughtful people every bit as worthy of attention and support as I've given and will continue to give EJ. Yet I am only one person with many competing demands on my attention and resources. And these are two very limited and dearly held things to me, santa. If I find that from time to time I choose to apply those resources elsewhere it's because I believe I get more value and utility in doing so. And just as it's EJ's business as how to best mind his own here at iTulip, it's entirely mine as to when I choose to purchase access through the paywall of this website. I'm happy that you are happy with your choices and would thank you for respecting the choices I've made, santa.

If I may, this empty words thing comes on a bit strong for my taste especially since I don't recall the last time we corresponded together. But since you bring it up, my public membership is active, I'm an active and sincere participant in the discussion and on occasion will post something when I think there's relevance. I've been a member of the Select community on and off for several years and love to eat from both sides of the pie, santa. I think the various kerfuffles over this or that in the public side are minor and inconsequential and always handled with firm and decorous efficiency by FRED. This recent attempt by some to draw a black line of "us" versus "them" in terms of the public and Select side is about as dumb as the proverbial box of hammers in my opinion. And anyone who thinks it's a good idea to cast aspersions on the good names of the readers on the public side or that such behavior is good for iTulip generally, I believe is making a mistake.

I enjoy the long form articles. In catching up with the thesis I read and reread many of the "greatest hits" and just fell in love with the writing and the work, generally. Alas, the last few did not have the same impact on me, to be frank, and likely that was part of my decision to let pass on renewing access for a while. As a onetime professional writer myself, I understand the challenge posed by the long form, deep pieces EJ would produce and that it's not possible for every swing to be a home run. And I had professional editorial support and an infrastructure with deep resources to enable my work. I can only imagine what EJ could do with the staff and resources of a small daily newspaper or a monthly magazine. I mean, that is, since we're seeming to presume we know anything about what EJ should or should not do, right?

I also enjoy and appreciate hearing EJ's perspective on matters within the domain of iTulip and outside it, too. If there are concerns about the content of the discussions on the public side it seems to me that his participation there would be most influential. Applied with some consistency it would surely be enough to gain a generalized consensus that would move discussions in whatever direction he thought to be most instructive and valuable. And as I've chosen not to pay for access through the paywall in some time, it seems I've missed what by your accounting is his decision to take another approach. I would guess this might be a potential answer to Mike's query.

But now that you bring this to my attention, I expect I will buy a ticket and take a ride soon enough. Thank you.

I also do not recall a discussion, this has just been my observation.

iTulip is a community. Like any community it requires maintenance and support. Many members of the community value iTulip enough to pay the "HOA" fees. Others do not.

No offense intended Woodsy, but you do understand that wonderful rhetoric and brilliant ideas do nothing to "keep the lights on" at iTulip.

I think you'll enjoy it. You've got a lot of catching up to do. After you read EJ's posts and discussions with other members I'm sure you'll come to your own conclusions but I've found him much more approachable this year. Now that he's publishing behind a paywall to a known community he's able to test ideas, think out loud a bit. Maybe I'm reading more into this than I should but his writing feels more like a conversation than it did a couple of years ago.

                    Re: Where's EJ?

Just wanted to add that I appreciate the exchange.

I'd been a select member several years back, and had also been disinclined to re-up because I wasn't sure if the lack of activity on the public site was indicative of what might be happening behind the pay wall.

Thanks for the perspectives on this.
