Perhaps. I know several northerners who would cheer and say, "finally those lunatics are gone, now we can have a more sensible government in the remaining states." Not everyone thinks that way, mind you, but since this exact topic has actually come up in some discussions I'd had, I thought I'd mention that the sentiment of at least some is a loud "good riddance".
While there is no doubt that Texas contributes economically, many see it as a moral anchor, holding the nation back by clinging to outdated, hurtful, and counterproductive mores (and thereby preventing the nation as a whole from making much-needed progress). For some, the north/south divide is once again dramatic enough to legitimately wonder whether each side might not be better off without the other.
