    What nonsense.

Firstly the 'data' regarding retirement pay is factually incorrect, as 5 minutes of googling and reading will reveal.

The premise that the salary and retirement costs for members of congress represents some meaningful fraction of the budget/deficit strikes me as pretty silly.

The idea that sociopaths and incompetents are drawn to politics because of the generous salary and benefits package is even more simpleminded.

And finally, the idea that if we make the job less attractive it will attract better people, certainly makes no sense to me.

      ?
The banker stuff is old news. The government saved our 401Ks, our savings accounts, and our bonds. Even our houses are almost back to where they were, and certainly that monthly mortgage payment is lower than ever! Bankers did some bad stuff almost a decade ago. But, that was really all because of a few bad apples and unworthy borrowers getting big loans.

Do you want the Muppet on the left or the Muppet on the right? Because nobody cares about bankers anymore. That is why you see little in the media, IMHO.

So why are sociopaths and incompetents drawn to US politics if not for the power and money? Just between the Clinton and Bush families you have a full house of sociopaths and I'm sure we can draw to another incompetent if we work at it a little. As Don said earlier both sides love to have us pick one side or the other. It will be funny to watch the Jeb vs. Hilary show coming up after the first of the year. We may as well enjoy the show, the outcome won't be fun for almost anyone who has to live and work in the US.

Of course they are drawn by the power and money. The salary and health care plan does not constitute the real money though. The power and money is in the revolving door, in the sweetheart inside deals, etc. etc.

Since none of them went to jail, you can be sure they're all doing something even more profitable today, just more sophisticated and more perverse. What they learned is that you have to pay billions when you get caught, so make 100s of billions so you can pay the criminals in government their billions or maybe 10s of billions. Who got punished? Bernie got punished, he couldn't pay. Give this another decade, the tsunami is coming but it's still well off shore. It's a combination of too many people, too much debt, too little growth, resources becoming precious and criminals rising to the top of the ruling class around the world.

The revolving door is just part of the benefits package for top level sociopaths. It's common everyday bribery but our system of government is so broken it doesn't appear we have the will to save it.
