6.0 is the initial strength. Biggest since 1989 - the World Series Quake. Epicenter just south of Napa. Lots of goods damaged. My daughter had all her pictures jump off the walls, display items on shelves ditto. A friend's son, with a large beverage warehouse, appears to have lost all his stock as his racks tumbled over. This is wine crush season. Lots of empty wine bottles lost. Structurally downtown Napa hit pretty hard in the historical district, which may have taken out the courthouse, the main postoffice, etc. Some road damage. Buckling, cracking. More as the day wears on. No serious injuries so far.
Napa Fire Department officials said 89 people had been injured and that three were in critical condition, including a child who was hurt by debris from a chimney. The child was later airlifted to a trauma center.
At least 70 of those hurt were at Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, where numerous people were being treated for concussions, cuts and bruises.
Hospital officials set up a triage tent in the back parking lot of the emergency room. Ambulances were arriving every few minutes dropping off patients.
(what will these Keynesians think of next . . .)
