Well let's start off with the obvious old geezer comment.

Today's music sucks compared to then.

I've kept up with jazz, appreciate current blues without collecting much, and just quit on rock, the music i cut my ears on. Is that shared here by many? Is it an age-related shift or did the music truly go bad (corporate?).

        +1
most certainly agree = most of the 'music' has gone straight into the sh__ter (and without intending on racial comment, we can thank the recent infatuation of the lamerstream media with excessive lowest-common-denominator focus on inner city 'culture' for most of it!)

and it has done so in direct relation to what vino (and 2nd by mr raz) is getting at above.

but will also agree with jp that 'things have got better' - at least some stuff - since the 70s-80s - having 'cut my ears/eyes' during that period ( being a '76 HS grad)

adding: that things started to get MUCH WORSE and faster - since the 90's - 1999, in particular

and most of whats happened since - esp in the mideast and how it 'trickled-down' (like the stain on a certain little blue dress) to 11sep2001 -

can be traced DIRECTLY BACK to that 'era'

Most "mainstream" pop/rock is sonically degraded compared to pre-1990's recording. There is audible distortion caused by extreme manipulation of the digital waveforms (hard clipping) in much of today's music. I personally find it unlistenable.

But it "sounds great on earbuds." (we need a DIAF emoticon).

And today is a nice example of what he's talking about -- gay marriage is blocked in Virginia pending an appeal to the Supreme Court.

This is an issue that really should be handled by Congress -- certainly at this point when it is all but decided. But it won't. And again, the decision will be left to the courts.

I suppose I should amend that I actually enjoy small live concerts/bands. But most of the stuff on the radio or at large concerts is overly digitally processed (apparently auto-tune is too blame)
