The debt the collectors were trying to collect was a business account, not mine personally. They were calling and mailing the business and I was the one dealing with them. Since they knew they had reached the correct business, there was no denying the relationship.
I have, like you, been called by collectors in cases of mistaken identity. Had to tell them on 3-4 occasions that they had the wrong person, but they eventually gave up.
Something really does need to be done to fully inform debtors and ensure that they are given proper notice of legal actions. You'd think congress could do something useful for a change, but nooooo.....
