Re: Is Ferguson just the start?
Hopefully, we're closer to the end of this rather than the start. Maybe journalists getting locked up and tear-gassed will wake up the fourth estate to their long-neglected duty of exposing tyranny.
I know, unlikely, but I can always hope.

Start of what? Urban blacks rioting and looting? That's been going on for years.
Here's some advice if you ever find yourself in police custody. Don't fight the cops, try to escape, or take an officer's gun.Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read. -Groucho

Ferguson, Missouri (CNN)-- The Ferguson police officer who shot Michael Brown didn't stop him because he was suspected in a convenience-store robbery, but because he was "walking down the middle of the street blocking traffic," the city's police chief said Friday.

Re: Is Ferguson just the start?
Even if this story is true, there has to be a better way to control violent offenders. At the very least the officer should have waited for backup. There also should be less deadly ways to control people.
If there was a struggle for the officer's gun, then you have an entirely different situation.

Re: Is Ferguson just the start?
This is a complex cause issue. An entire book could be written as to the cause of dysfunction black urban areas , but it is dysfunctional as a matter of fact. That does not mean that on the other side of this we are NOT slowly seeing a police style state.
Correct the above with "NOT". We are become much more of a police style state.Last edited by gwynedd1; August 19, 2014, 11:02 AM.

Obama On Police Militarization: We Need To Make Sure They're Buying Stuff They Actually Need
but the comics do at least as good of a job as he does on this one, eh?
Cartoons of the day: Militarization of police:
The police response to recent protests in Ferguson, Mo., has highlighted what many consider the militarization of police in the U.S. Editorial cartoonist John Cole draws the difference in terms of a popular police cliche — the trip to the doughnut shop — while Jim Morin thinks the police aren’t the only ones who need to demilitarize.
