  • BlackRock Founder joins Apple Board

Susan Wagner joins Apple board of directors.
Does this indicate Apple plans to spend some of its huge cash pile buying up some companies?
Is 160 billion dollars burning a hole in their pocket?

From the Apple press release http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2014...Directors.html

...“Sue is a pioneer in the financial industry and we are excited to welcome her to Apple’s board of directors,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We believe her strong experience, especially in M&A and building a global business across both developed and emerging markets, will be extremely valuable as Apple continues to grow around the world.”...

I think you guys might be right that Apple wants to buy some real estate.
But instead of single family homes all over the US, I think there's a chance Apple prefers two particular properties near Albany New York:

The IBM chip fab in East Fishkill just south of Albany, and the Global Foundries Fab 8 facility just north of Albany.
That would let Apple rid itself of Samsung, a former chip supplier that turned into a fierce competitor for finished devices.

I have visions of living inside the seamless interior of a oversized refrigerator, with the walls punctuated by the occasional flush mounted touch screen...

I doubt it...Apple will probably have all the screens programmed so they stop glowing after 60 seconds of no activity. Seems somewhat ironic that the only way to keep their computers "alive" is with a human touch...

Do any of our tech gurus have any opinion about the recent Apple -IBM deal for enterprise computing, and the possibility of a larger merger to compete with Google?

On July 15 the companies announced the partnership
                    On July 17 Susan Wagner, a heavy-hitter M&A artist, joins Apple's board.
Some chatter about the possibility in certain circles.
