Well here's were the grey area comes in and the beginning of the slippery slope. There are very few free things in the world.

Even leaves on the trees become a scarce resources in the winter. It's just nobody really needs them. However if you do, you'll have to put some money on the table to get one. The amount of that money depends on the value of your need. Leaves maybe a silly example, but parking spots in a city of 5 million cars with only 3 million parking spaces is not.

However were this "jerk tech" is a bad idea if anyone spends 30 seconds thinking about it. What if someone excepts payment to hold their parking spot and the takes off? What if the person who wants the spot never shows up? Refunds and banning? Ok, great, then you suddenly have no users left and don't generate any revenue. Facebook "likes" is a nice example of what happens when a business has a conflict of interest in making their system work properly.

For those Jerk tech's that do stand up with time, there will eventually be a push back. Perhaps restaurants will hold a deposit for a reservation that's refunded when the person arrives. Probably a good idea for busy restaurants in any case. A reservation no show is lost money to them.

As for the rental couch swapping crap. The first news report of a theft or assault and the whole idea is dead in the water.

Unfortunately it's only a matter of time. Even the best designed system will eventually be exploited for abuse once it becomes popular. Add to that an ever increasing population discontented "have-nots" and you're just asking for trouble.
