    The idea that we are exporting petroleum does not hint of another potential dynamic? Same reason the housing market is floating on air.

      Well it was. While it's easy to crack jokes, and I've seen this one probably a thousand times in . com comments sections, I agree that it appears the cold temperatures have massively overrated.

      Cold temperatures don't explain this:

      The 2.9% decrease in real GDP reflected the negative contribution from exports as well as declines in private inventory investment both residential and nonresidential fixed investment



      Getting back to the weather for a moment and aside from economics, up here in New England we had a very warm Summer in 2013, but since mid-October the temperatures have been running "below average". After a particularly cold Winter and Spring, it's made for a very dry and pleasant Summer so far this year. The farmers and the homeowners that love their green lawns probably aren't enjoying just how dry it's been the last few months. We shall see how long this pattern goes on for.
