Re: Beware young people, the Boomers want your BLOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Their have been many times i though about taking my own life........the World can be a dull, cold, depressing place. However one of the few things that "keeps me in the game" is the thought of the young of this nation rising up & telling not the bankers (like Max Keiser wants) but those whom allowed, no.........infact demanded that the bankers act as they have/are.

I am of course talking about the vile self-serving scum that are known as the "Boomers".

These F*cks have done all but reduced the youth of my nation to little more than slaves!

The Boomers had FREE Uni, not any more for the kids of today.........insane levels of debt await you!

The NHS, built our of the ashes of boombed out Britan just after WW2 is collasping under the weight of PPP's (Ponzi debt scam)

The rail network is the same, in fact just about EVERY level of goverment is crammed with muti-level debt rolled up into some "keep it off the balance sheet" ponzi scam.

The young face "Zero hour" work contracts, the Boomers did not & invested them to enslave the young.

Buy a house!!!.........The Boomers have (via B2L) removed that possabilty for the vast numbers.........

    Mega Sez:-

F*ck them, F*ck them with knobs on!
Young Man, young women unite, FIGHT these blood sucking sh1ts !......these born in the 60's freeloading f8cks!

Get togetether, form a polical movement, unite & tell them "The party is over!"

Or face a life of slavely!

Calm down Mega. There are plenty of decent Boomers who do not have debt and have not f**ked anyone. I do not fully understand your ranting but clearly you are not thinking straight. Take a pill, lie down, draw the curtains and listen to some soothing music.

mr mike - the 'boomers' are the ones born from 1945 to 1960 or so - its the boomer POLITICIANS that are The Problem, particularly the ones 'higher-educated' during the 1960's (while most of em mostly just got higher...)
you know, the 'free love/sex/drugs/rocknroll' free.fer.all that happened (over here, anyway) during the 'vietnam era' - when if they werent turning/burning cars in the streets, were getting AFU'd on 'philosophy' and social/political 'science'

frankly, i'm glad i missed that whole show, getting out of HS in '76...

Re: Beware young people, the Boomers want your BLOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that the scorn and blame heaped on the boomers is pretty much justified, based on the results that we see.

Lek your scorn seems to be aimed at a totally different crowd; not saying you're wrong, but wondering why you're chiming in on an anti-boomer thread.

Anyway I don't think that the situation is the result of any unique personal failing of the boomers, except of course that they are humans. En masse, humans are pretty shitty, and will always do the short-term easy thing.

I see our current situation and ongoing future decline as inevitable, in that we are victims of our success. Success lets people get weak and lazy, the sociopaths rise to the top, etc. etc. The idea that there could have been some static idealogy that could practically have been followed that would make things better is ridiculous IMO.

Also, as much as we are victims of our success in terms of a society, we also are (or will be anyway) victims of Peak Cheap Resources, which compounds the problems and makes in unlikely that we will recover from them without dealing with some significant hardship in the meantime. So there you have it Mega. I agree it's worth staying around to watch it unfold, but no reason to be so angry about it.

But . . . as a I write this, I'm remembering how many times I've heard over the past months on NPR how important it is that young people sign up for the ACA, because the economics of it depends on healthy people subsidizing . . . the BOOMERS. The comment is repeated over and over, with no sense of shame or apology. So the boomers got to enjoy the golden era of America and excessive fossil fuel consumption, and they are STILL intent on sucking the blood of the younger generations. So yeah, fuck 'em.

Full disclosure - I was born in '64 so technically I'm a boomer, barely, and indeed life has been good to me. I'm not complaining for myself.

I told my kids I was selling them down the road if they could not guarantee my retirement. I am not a boomer, but I do hope to take a few weeks off before I die. I am counting on at least one of them marrying well (and buying some gold before the divorce).

Let us not forget the boomer parents. They are not dying off like they are supposed to either. Now, with blood rejuvenation therapy, they may even live longer. You may hear your grandmother complain about your "skinny" children for an extra 30 years.

I can just see the selection at the store:

            PRICES ARE PER PINT

            1. Successful Male Blood - $200 dollars
            2. Successful Female Blood - $100 dollars
            3. Hot, youthful female blood - $300 dollars
            4. Crack whore (either sex) - $50 (screened for STDs add $20)
            5. Brad Pitt offspring blood - $190,000 (includes DNA certificate you can frame on your wall)
            ------

Sorry Mega #3 is probably priced higher in the UK. And, you will have to price it in pounds, cuz that is what you guys use over there.

I agree with those who say don't blame all the boomers. But..... I have to admit that my usually very conservative, very republican parents in their 80'(pre boomer) have no problem with government when it comes to prying the money out of younger taxpayers to pay for weekly doctor visits, drugs, knee replacements, etc. Somehow that's different! They'll also complain about illegal immigration and welfare while the Honduran maid cleans just feet away and the Mexican gardner cuts the grass.

This country has gone through a long period of phony affluence based on debt and simply kicking the can down the road. But people are too busy patting themselves on the back for their "success" to look at things honestly. We have all been riding that wave but eventually the wave hits the beach. Then we go back to 1935.

I also agree, not all boomers are to blame, but a lot are clueless of the role the play in our modern social structure and how much has been given to them that they will never return.

My ex's boomer parents are a clear example of this. They have done very well as realestate agents, scooping up distress sales and renting them to working poor. They were very vocal about the fact that they "don't plan on leaving anything behind".

As a genX'er, from wartime parents, I thought the attitude was very unappreciative of the opportunities that were placed before them and not available to their own children or grand children. They wouldn't be called "bad people" however their attitudes are very "common" with little understanding of the world beyond their own neighbourhood.

There might be something in claims that cyclical (generational) trends exist based on economic and societal developments. As such, they're the product of their environment.

Rather than fixating on what kind of evils were perpetrated by that generation, it'd be more important on focussing on how to fix the issues that their generation failed to address.

There seems to be a undercurrent in media where the generational divide is being stirred up in order to provoke younger generations to 'blow up' welfare systems as the older generations take more than their fair share. Wouldn't it be better to reform these systems to make them fairer instead of disbanding them (or replacing them with systems managed completely by big finance)?

IMHO, the easiest/fairest way to fix them would be to simply RAISE THE FICA CAP

it should be - at an absolute minimum - raised to the level of 100% of congressional salaries.

i'd go a step further and suggest that until the social-safety net system is 'balanced/fully-funded', that a surtax be levied upon (all forms of) incomes above a certain multiple of per capita - oh i dunno - say 5x - with no limit, until sufficient amounts have been collected

with ALL of it 'sequestered' for the purposes of which it has been collected.

altho i know this will result in howls of protest from those effected - but its again quite simple - if theres no 'security' for the low end of the working class - there's not likely to be much for the upper end, nor the oligarch class
(and a secondary benefit of the 2nd amendment, which is what the 'elite' and their lib-dem enablers are REALLY afraid of )

                      and i remain a 'small-r' type

This assumes there is a way to fix the system in a way that makes it fair. In what sense can I strike a fair deal with a person twice my age whereby I give them money until they die and in return they give me nothing? Or at best they promise me the next generation will pay on their behalf.

I know that will sound harsh or extreme, but that is the logical reality. I'm not advocating to blow up the system entirely but we have to be honest about the situation.

Yes I agree,. It is the "enviroment" that is the problem. With no real understanding of the world around them and the effect they have on it (mass consumption, resource depletion and degradation, third world exploitation, etc...) they enjoy a blissful ignorance. This ignorance is sponsored by the top down. TPTB perpetuate the ignorance because its easy and works for them. Statements like "the American way of life is non-negotiable" are iconic examples of this ignorance being institutionalized.

I believe education is both the source of the problem and the source of the solution. If the boomers understood how their opportunities granted them were at the sacrifice of their grandchildren's well being, they would be more humble and a bit willing to negotiate for the betterment of all.

But alas it won't happen. While my mother guilt's herself into sending me a $50 check for my birthday, I dismiss thoughts of retirement, and my daughter struggles to find a part time job, her boomer grandparents, with no education, enjoy multi-month holidays around the world.

Now Sorry Mega, I'm not helping your outlook on life. But that doesn't mean a good life still can't be had. It just won't be had in the way "those that have" will have. Take care of those around you, do no harm to those that are not, and find enjoyment in simpler things.

You said you're in Liverpool didn't you? You're on the coast. Get a nice sailboat (I'm a Cat fan myself). English made boats are great on the open ocean. I'm looking at buying one as we speak. Get out into the open blue skies and open blue seas. Then you'll see, what you have, right there, right then, is pretty damn sweat. A much more satisfying investment than some bars of gold.

                          Enjoy!

I'm at the tail end of the baby boomers. I've been paying into Social Security for more than 35 years, paying the costs of the generation(s) ahead of me. I have no idea how many hundreds of thousands of dollars I've paid into it that I would have preferred to invest for myself. Now I find the generation behind me grumbling and saying they shouldn't have to pay because there's nothing in it for them.

My thought is that this is part of what it means to be in a society as it is currently understood. If the system has been set up so that each generation is paying for the generation that is getting old ahead of it, then that's the way it works. The younger generation pays during their working lifetime to support the older generations. When you GenX'ers and GenY'ers and Millenials are old, the generations younger than you will be paying for you. That's how it goes. You're not so special that you should be exempted from the same obligation that the generations before you had. And you will probably feel differently about it when you are retired. which will come sooner than you imagine.

At the same time, I remember grumbling myself about it when I was younger. And I have never planned on getting any Social Security. I could see it was destined for fiscal collapse back when I was in my early 20s. I've always figured I would be entirely on my own in providing for my old age, and if I do somehow get something from SS I will consider it a surprising bonus. In all likelihood they will either start reducing your payments based on your net worth or else pay out in increasingly worthless dollars that won't buy more than a few loaves of bread a month anyway.

So basically, even though we shouldn't count on getting enough money to pay for "more than a few loaves of bread a month", we should just shut up and take it because it's our "obligation"? Seriously? That's your viewpoint? You knew it was destined for collapse but now that you think it might not collapse until after you get yours, it's all gravy?

Try this thought experiment: Let's pass a law today where every dollar we pay in taxes is owed to the current taxpayers upon their retirement. But since we need cash to keep the government running we will loan it from our retirement system to the government to use for current expenses. Then we will claim the system "owes us" money since we (our elected officials anyway) agreed that the tax money would accrue to our benefit even though we also got the benefit of the roads, military, police etc that it paid for in the meantime. This is what Social Security does just not on the same scale. To then say that our children and grandchildren have an "obligation" to pay for this is absurd.

As a necessary disclaimer: I don't advocate letting retirees die in the streets but we need to be honest about the situation to resolve it.
