I was five years old and watched them on the Ed Sullivan Show at my grandmother's house. I'd never seen an electric guitar before that night and said it didn't sound like a guitar. Everyone was riveted to the screen and told me to shut up.
My best friend is about twenty years older than I. She was a recent Columbia graduate with a degree in journalism. She somehow landed the job of being the Beatles tour publicist but never got to see them in concert. She was heavily pregnant at the time and her husband was worried that she would be injured by the mob of hysterical fans. He put his foot down and wouldn't let her go. They had a long and wonderful marriage but she never forgave him for that.
Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. -
