Someone may have hoped they were unrecoverable, but it seemed to me like a poorly crafted lie from the start.

We have mandatory email training every year at my company. You cannot ever count on emails being lost. They are cached and forwarded by routers and servers countless times. With IP phones, as well, your entire phone conversation is now a data stream just like an email who knows where it lingers and for how long.....
