But how to feel part of it, when ones feels humbled by the intellectual capacity of others around. How inclusive can it be?

1) If you possess the necessary subject matter expertise/wisdom it will be noticed thru positive contributions to the community

2) If you do NOT possess the necessary subject matter expertise/wisdom then you spend time in a related community area for self-learning on relevant foundation topics and principals with some designated online guides helping the new folks.

3) Just because a person doesn't currently possess subject matter expertise/wisdom on big picture finance/investment doesn't prevent them from possibly contributing to due diligence of investment opportunities that may cross paths with their educational/social networks and professional expertise.

Baloney.
Seizing the personal fortune of Bill Gates would not close down Microsoft, nor would taking the personal money from Warren Buffett close down Dairy Queen or GEICO.
The companies and jobs would still be there. The money would still be there, and change from tax sheltered capital gains to fully taxable W2 wages, and some of it would be invested by someone into something.
I doubt the personal spending of these 400 people for "..goods and services..." would be missed in our GDP.
The hubris and arrogance of this theorem is staggering. It smells a bit like the divine right of kings.

I have recently returned from the Exumas in the Bahamas. One can certainly see where all the money is going. Its going into yachts and private islands. All those bridges , sewer systems and power infrastructure projects are being put on hold for a fully staffed island meant to serve a few with a marina, airport, power, cell towers and water purification for offshore.

I also got the feeling it was an arms race between ya know, the ultimate luxury experience since more development was being made in this area. Imagine having the best and most obscenely luxurious place one year only to to be second rate the next.

I found it was a very beautiful place, but also a bit ugly as well when one grasps the strangely obsessive pursuit of luxury which really isn't about the area since anyone can rent a boat to get on a beach or even drive or walk to one. So all it is really is the bringing along of conveniences. The sky is that much bluer with a bag of potato chips. Its nice to use the toilet on your own boat and not have to bring a water bottle...or is it? I find something like Greg Norman's golf course in the Exumas to be an example of something where no one has anything left to conquer. Its like trying to make a dish of pineapple and coconut in Alaska or watching the Superbowl with 3 hookers in a hot tub with your favorite sandwich. They have no pain and the boredom is all that is left to consume them.

What if there was a firm that was actually for the clients rather than for the managers?

What if the firm was founded on a set of principles that the client community developed?

What if the client community was part of the development of the firm's investment thesis and this firm's decisions were informed by the opinions of the community of clients themselves?

What if this firm was audited by an elected body of the client community?

An interesting idea.

You might have seen the recent film.

But, how will the client community make the right decisions. They need professionals because they do not know what to do. So how can they tell management what to do?
