As you say, c1ue, looks like a setup for political/economic disaster.
I find it rather interesting that even the top 1% saw a decline in their rate of income gain in the period after 1979. Given the apparent triumph of capital over labour, and that cohorts accumulated assets, that is surprising.

Nevertheless, it seems that finding a way to level out or re-distribute income, so people can service their debt, is of more immediate concern than the potential ills of large wealth disparities - as long as the public can continue to be pursuaded that the American Dream is alive and well.

      Bart,

The discrepancy you mention is not surprising if consider the modern system of tax gaming.

The richest can afford the best tax lawyers, so I wouldn't be surprised at all to see that they are not making money in IRS terms.

I think those were iTulip's chart (you can tell because they're lots cleaner and have no "spaghetti" ;) ), but agreed on taxes in general. That's what Buffett was talking about when testifying in front of Congress a while back - he pays less taxes than most of his employees.

Trouble brewing, we can be sure the CCP will really clamp down hard on speculation.
