  • Any body having a problem with their CITI credit card?

Two weeks ago a CITI representive called me, and said they had to cancel my card and close that account due to some internal issue that she couldn't explain to me. She then said I'll be receiving a new card in 5-6 days with a different number, but no change in the benefits. I thought this was odd, but didn't think much of it.

It has now been two weeks, and I haven't received my new card. I called and the representive said the mailing process must just be a little slow, and it will get here soon.

It has now crossed my mind that this technique, if spread over a few hundred thousand customers, could help them boost their balance sheets by few hundred million dollars, as an effort to prevent some major problems from coming to a head.

Of course this is pure speculation and I really don't know if this theory could have any basis in reality, but I was just curious to know if anyone else has had issues with their CITI credit card getting cancelled. Anyone?

I've used mine in the past week or so online. Haven't received anything about canceling the card. Does seem strange, especially that they wouldn't give you a reason.

      It happened to me.

I had a series of credit card charges starting with Smile something or other in December 2006, followed by a couple of 'nutritional supplement' bogus charges in January/February 2007. All 3 charges from companies based in Henderson, NV.

I called in and complained and got those charges reversed.

However, my card was not replaced until roughly 2 months ago.

So either there was a systemic CC number hack at Citi or the above issue was the reason - or maybe both?

I had had that card for 11 years - my first CC in fact.
