I'd sit it out for about a year. Watch the price of oil, the two are connected. If we do get a mid-gap recession this year, both are going to fall.

Each tick up on the 10 year Treasury yield is another nail in the coffin. We could have a 2 year high on yields tomorrow. It's only a 5 basis point domino, but it only takes one domino to fall to set off the chain. That being said, peaks to troughs are about 1.5 years. So lots of patience is required.

The big commodities take off will be in round two. The FED will charge up the helicopters and try to bail out the world again, but the big fundies will just take the money and run. With equities, housing, and bonds being a losing bet next to cash for almost 20 years, who the hell will want paper?

until then though, cash will have it's one last hurrah as King

Am only taking the job because i need to fund my hair transplant & a new car........i ditch it in 5 years. Er sadly i am going to be working for "Da Man".......

You could dollar cost average into GTU. Its selling at a discount of -7.5%. This way transactions costs are low. If you prefer BV, or physical you could sell a lump of GTU and buy some real gold later. Gold to Oil ratio is 12, which is nearly one standard deviation below the 10 year average.

Speaking of upticks in interest rates, when does the fed re-up QE??? 10yr 3%, 3.5%??

I've been hunkering in US dollars for a few months now. If you read EJ's gold prediction for the year, he said 1200 by the end of 2013 which is looking to be accurate. There's no way the U.S. dodges a crash in 2014, and I want to have the capital to swoop in and buy up as much gold as possible

I'd say having a job is a good thing. Unless you really want to invest in options and shorts, I don't think there will be much money from the market for a while now. This Christmas rally smells of blow-off top. While everyone cheers the FED for ending QE in well broadcasted baby steps; nobody seems to want to mention that the buyer of 80% of treasuries and MBS for the last year is now leaving the room.

I guess we'll see if anybody actually wants American paper any more.
