Seems to me EJ covered this issue in June with a little help from GRG. FIRE overestimates output and resource longevity. Everyone gets excited. FIRE exits with profits. Locals use technology to ensure they pump too much oil too fast and ensure their profits are minimized. Repeat somewhere else in the world.

Re: Gulf of Mexico following the Northsea?

I think this is where output exceeds demand due to the increasing slowing of the economy worldwide...which means deflation...which means more recession, and more of the same misery we have now, except perhaps that it will get worse for some time to come.

I do wish there was a way to take over all the newspapers and TV channels, and Blogs for just long enough to let everyone know what is really going on...the rape of the many by the few.

Such open truth might actually spark a reaction.

Or we might see that most people really do NOT care, in which case, we can stop paying attention.

It might, but the reaction would be the same old misguided dependence on politicians to fix the problems. Most people are deliberately blind to the fact that our politicians are the well-paid servants of the plutocrats.

So there could be a temporary rally of "the people" which would soon devolve into partisan haggling... loss of focus... and then back to sleep. One of the best squandered opportunities (IMO) was when "Occupy" and the Tea Party failed to see the common enemy of plutocracy and political corruption and failed to merge. The corporate-and-government controlled MSM relentlessly pumps out propaganda to foster Left-vs-Right partisianship and anger, keeping us fighting amongst ourselves, divided and conquered.

And unfortunately from what I've experienced, most people do not care, as long as they've got their own needs met. Bread and circuses...

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Jim Puplava did an interview with Joe Dancy where he discusses the fantasies built around shale plays, and a recent IEA report regarding them. Good interview.

It has been my experience that most would not listen . They may at some point search for answers if it happens fast and sever enough. They will then likely find the wrong ones.

What you describe between occupy and the tea party was like the battle of the bulge and they failed to see the common enemy. The FIRE sector is even more powerful and consolidated now.

I suppose we can mostly stop paying attention then, except to guard our assets, and maximize our gain. Watching the dog and pony show is wearisome.
