Same here. They just reach for the RX pad.

Yup, that's my experience. And I'm in Canada with it's socialized health care that is suppose to be "above" all that. What really amazed me was how quick they are to prescribe brand name medicine for life.

All of them had marginal benefits, and serious UNDISCLOSED side effects, some of them dire and I did experience them. Diet and exercise fixed all but one. I cured my acid reflux with alka seltzer in a few months; after 18 months of Protonix.

Personally, I'm not a big fan on the lawsuite crowd, but I think this warrants a class action suit (possible from the insurers that pay for most of this crap). It's obvious governments and regulators are not going to do anything about it.

Fox, could you elaborate. Thanks, pal.

I inherited my hair from my mother's side of the family, so I can't complain, but I do love this signature I saw recently on a Swedish forum:

Re: Mr T: Happy Daze in the Testosterone Pit

As I continue my regimen of injecting testosterone as part of testosterone replacement therapy, one would think that I would feel more like a male. With all this testosterone surging through a person, one should feel like a male. But I don't. The more I take, the more I want to be a woman. Half of my thoughts throughout the day just seem to go towards this vision I have of myself as a girl. I imagine myself in all these scenarios. I have long, curly red hair with delicate features. I would dance, do ballet, and all these feminine things that I would love to do. I wouldn't be constantly trying to measure up to this male standard I cannot possibly reach. I would be able to become what I should have been all along. It is unfortunate because I do not work too well as a male. I did TRT because I thought it would let me become something I am not. If I couldn't be a woman, I could at least be a masculine man. Which might sound strange for someone that would have liked to have transitioned, but if you can't do the one thing you want, then you might as well try to do the thing you can as well as possible. I don't know if that makes sense or not, but it is what I have got. I can pass as a male even if I feel like a fraud. If I transitioned, I feel like I would be stuck in some kind of gender purgatory where I am neither male nor female and acceptable to no one, least of all myself. If I had known about transitioning when I was younger and had understood more about myself, it could have been a really strong possibility.

That's my rant, though. Take it for what you will if you happen to read it, good people of the iTulips. If you are transgendered and thinking about TRT and all that crap to cope with being a male, take it from me: don't do it. You won't be any happier. You'll just feel even further alienated.

              Sure I'd love to help

Basically my percription ran out, and didn't think it worth the hassle to make a doctor appointment considering the improvement was marginal.

So I thought I'd just give antacids a try. If I'm going to be stuck on something for life, I thought might as well make it something convenient. So I took 2 500mg pill at bed time then 1 between breakfast and lunch, and another between lunch and supper (giving my stomach 2 hours before and after each pill).

It worked much better than the Rx so I kept it up for a few months (maybe three, I haven't been able to fix my memory yet ;P ). But it also worked so well, I was no longer getting any symptoms (painful lump in my throat). So I started to forget taking it.

And then after forgetting more and more, I noticed my when my symptoms returned, they were no worse than the best case with the Rx. So I stopped talking antacids to see what happens. And what happened was that my symptoms didn't get worse beyond a slight lump in my throat. So I figured, I can live with that and so I have. That was about a year ago.

I'm thinking I'll take some tablets at night for a bit though because my throat is bugging me now. However I think that is more because you're making me think about it ;)

Staying on antacids permanently isn't a good idea though. You end up with build up of the base mineral they use (calcium,or magnesium). But cycling on and off is not a problem. and It doesn't involve a doctor sticking a scope down your throat through the back of your nose. XD

Let me know if it works for you.

                Thanks, Fox.

I had an increasing swallowing problem. They took a look down my esophagus and expanded it back to normal size. Everything was great (normal). Prilosec was recommended as a maintenance drug. Took it for about a month and then stopped, thinking neutralizing a part of my digestion wasn't a good idea. (I'd read of heart related complications as well) It's been two years and it apparently is returning. Acid reflux hasn't been a noticeable symptom. I can immediately stop any upper indigestion with a Tums.

OTOH, an empty shed doesn't need a roof.

Full Disclosure, I have a "perfect" head.

Thanks for the info, Fox. I just told my wife, who has a problem with this. We both have found some benefit in papaya tablets. We take about 4 or five with our biggest meal, which is usually supper.
