  • Census faked unemployment numbers before 2012 election

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.

In the home stretch of the 2012 presidential campaign, from August to September, the unemployment rate fell sharply — raising eyebrows from Wall Street to Washington.

The decline — from 8.1 percent in August to 7.8 percent in September — might not have been all it seemed. The numbers, according to a reliable source, were manipulated.

And the Census Bureau, which does the unemployment survey, knew it.

Just two years before the presidential election, the Census Bureau had caught an employee fabricating data that went into the unemployment report, which is one of the most closely watched measures of the economy.

And a knowledgeable source says the deception went beyond that one employee — that it escalated at the time President Obama was seeking reelection in 2012 and continues today.

I just read about this. Probably just the tip of the iceberg. We all know politicians do whatever they can to make themselves look better, but the IRS scandal, obamacare, libya. A pattern has developed. This administration has no credibility.

This is actually really funny to me. Epic wrap battles created a great video of Obama vs Romney at that time. I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it. They have a "Behind the scenes" video. In it they mention how they had to redo the unemployment part because the Census Bureau suddenly came up with a number below 8%.

At the time, employment not being below 8% was a big deal. Anyways, just find it funny watching things come full circle. Not that it matters now.

Re: Census faked unemployment numbers before 2012 election

My understanding drawn from personal research into the figures first mooted by Dan Amerman is that we cannot have ANY trust in any unemployment figures coming out of today's governments; yours in Washington and ours here in London. The underlying problem is the loss of trust; once we lose trust; where do we go next?

The US unemployment figure is somewhere in the region of ~19% with ~50% of the 16 - 19 age group unemployed, as is the same figure for the likes of Spain. Last May, I attended the Berggruen Institute on Governmance Public Forum in Paris France which was opened by the President of France, had every major leader of Europe in attendance and was closed by the President of Spain. They were there debating the underlying reasons for there being 10 million young people in Europe without a job. So, please do not believe it when people try and tell you the unemployment figures are in the region of 7%; they are very simply lying to you. Period!

The elephant in the room is the layer upon layer of untruth that has been used to cover up incompetance. One must believe they assumed that by covering up, in the end, everything would come good and they would not have to worry about it in the long term; except that nothing is turning out good, regardless that they keep trying to tell us otherwise.

We are at the same point in history before the likes of the people of France got up and revolted. NO, I am NOT suggesting that we do anything like that; simply to point out that, unless we all get to grips with the facts and act upon them,we are facing a very disruptive time ahead - for all of us.

If the economic truths were told, people would feel this was the 2nd Great Depression.

            Can't have that.

It's one thing to say that the numbers (employment or inflation) are bogus and don't reflect reality because of changes to how they are calculated and/or adjusted. It's another to say that are being fudged to support one political party. The former has been going on for decades; the latter under the current (mis)administration.

Jack Welch is vindicated as well.
