I think this is exactly why these high profile, public frustrating sites, with microscopic budgetary impact, are chosen. Stir em up, "concede" when it furthers the goal.

You could well be right. But this is a perfect opportunity for Americans to engage in a Ghandi-style passive resistance to the government. If thousands of people would go to national parks and monuments at the same time and refuse to leave... let themselves be dragged away... there would be more than the Park Service could arrest. This is OUR land, gorramit!

however - there ARE more effective ways at MAKING A POINT
and The Point is, that SOME politicians KNOW HOW TO LEAD, rather than fold and blame it all on the beltway.

and - DESPITE the best efforts of the liberal media to paint all of this as a DISASTER,
there IS some goodnews in this dept

In a peaceful though vociferous demonstration, veterans marched in D.C., tore down "Barrycades" at the WWII Memorial and other attractions, and deposited them in front of the White House. Park Service police in riot gear were sent packing with shouts of "Shame on you!" and "You work for us!"

What would be great to see is one of those Ken Burns docos done on the Bonus Army.

And the roles played by government at the time, MacArthur, Patton, Eisenhower, and Smedley Butler.

But it would appear Ken Burns is a big contributor to the current mob in office and has favourably compared the sitting President to President Lincoln.

Maybe some up and coming film student with an understanding of American 20th Century history might cover it and put it on Youtube for the kids.

of course that doesn't mean their shutdown cherry picking can't backfire. we're dealing here with an especially pure form of high octane hubris . . . .

Protesting Veterans Tear Down DC Barricades, Chant "Shut Down The White House"

The "Million Vet March" in Washington D.C. appears to be escalating as reports of barricades being torn down, police in riot gear and snipers being deployed, and a growing crowd at The White House chanting for its shut-down suggest the people are growing restless.

Veterans take back the Vietnam Memorial

              Via Epoch Times,

Protesters have gathered in front of the White House in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, according to reports.

Park police in riot gear were deployed in front of the building.

“US Park Police have arrived in front of WH. Some in riot gear! Tea party/veteran protesters start booing,” wrote CNN’s Jim Acosta on Twitter.

A rally took place at the World War II memorial and headed to the White House, reported NBC Washington. Several thousand demonstrators came out, it said.

NBC reported that people were carrying barricades that were likely from the WWII memorial to the White House area.

The DC Police Department said its officers are on the scene.

“MPD is on the scene at White House with USSS & USPP concerning protest – marchers using sidewalk,” it wrote on Twitter.

Commentator Sarah Palin and Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) were on the scene and spoke to demonstrators.

The organizers of the protest described themselves as the “Million Vet March.”

It said that veterans and military members are “being used a political pawns in the ongoing government shutdown and budget crisis,” its website reads.

Jeff Tompkins, a protester, told NBC that “it should be open to everyone to come down here and see this … this is not just and not fair,” referring to the WWII memorial.

Snipers at the ready atop the White House as the crowds gather...

Doesn't rise to the level of Ken Burns, but quite elucidating for those unaware of the history.

But there's another "army" that gets even less attention but is probably more relevant to our present crisis.

coxeys army and a 400 mile 'march for jobs' = the good ole days. (unfortunately)

and the more things change, the more they remain the same.

hilarious aint it? - that for going on 5 years after hearing (nothing but chin music) about the now mythical 'pivot to jobs' - all we get/ continue to get from the current occupant&co - never mind his dept of 'justice' - is what? -
                  Syria-ously ?
