Can we send someone to jail for this crime? This is corruption at a very high level.

I wonder if anyone can point to an over-arching review of the how the IRS has been used as a political tool. Audits as harassment have a long history, probably as long as the history of the agency. It was at its worst during the late 60's early 70's. I find it sad that Carson who was always a rock star chose to up it on Fox.

There's not much and what exists is written from a decidedly conservative viewpoint. That does not negate the value of course, but makes it just that harder to suss out truth from partisanship. That said, using the IRS as a political tool remains a bipartisan pastime.

Try David Burnham's book, “A Law Unto Itself: The IRS and the Abuse of Power” and John Andrew's, "The Power to Destroy: The Political Uses of the IRS from Kennedy to Nixon."

Red meat across the spectrum. Something for everyone.

BTW, Burnham looks pretty smart as he predicted the NSA total information awareness panopticon back in 1983.
