Wow, fairly accurate for a Daily Mail.

    To reiterate:

    1) Global Warming hasn't stopped. It has slowed down to nearly undetectable levels.

    2) The damage due to CO2 levels in the atmosphere - certainly as expressed in a rising global temperature - clearly seems to have been overestimated

    3) The damage due to 'climate disruption' has been thoroughly debunked as having nothing whatsoever to do with temperature levels - irrespective of the source of the temperature changes

    4) The billions spent on global warming climate change climate disruption mitigation: seems like a waste so far.

The billions spent on global warming climate change climate disruption research: 30 years and still no more usable data nor functional models - seems like a poor return on money

The billions spent on global warming climate change climate disruption avoidance via alternative energy subsidies: seems to have had zero impact on rising atmospheric CO2 levels - Epic Fail.

If the science is so settled why do the "scientific" models produce such bad results?

It's amazing that the parade of climate change exploiters want to compare "climate deniers" with "holocaust deniers" while marching along the same path that took Germany to such bad ends. I'm OK with environmental stewardship. I'm not OK with the huge increase in government control and bureaucracy that is accompanying the climate debate.

What is also so amazing is that the "science" of climate change produces such ridiculous "solutions" as Cap and Trade - can you really call Cap and Trade a scientific solution??? Cap and Trade is going to work as well as bundling subprime mortgages worked out.

Which portions of my statement are unscientific bullshit?

The sad fact is - every statement is fully supported by scientific research.

It is and has always been a tax and spend scam.

Let's move forward with a major push in this country to build safe nuclear plants, transform all vehicles to hybrid diesel, and significantly increase telecommuting.
Get TECI off the drawing board and start the transformation.

Exactly. Just like almost everything the Democratic Party has advocated for the past forty years.
Before that they actually had some principles. The Republicans did too, "once upon a time".

We'll have to flush the CONgress like an industrial toilet before that can happen.

Re: Global warming.......guess what.......its TOTAL Bollocks!

When it comes to GW or AGW I often focus/read about seed production and plant propagation.

You’d have better luck raising oysters in the desert than growing a field of beefsteak tomatoes in Thailand. Yes, you can baby them in five-gallon pots and move them around or grow them in greenhouses, but basically out in a field, even if they survive to become healthy mature plants, they won’t set. And the number one reason is nighttime temperatures. Thousands have tried. All have failed. Many plants require a narrow range of nighttime lows in order to fruit. That range can be as small as 5 degrees Fahrenheit or 2.7 Celsius. Even a slight change in average temperatures can end the viability of a particular species.

The modern seed business in Thailand dates back to the early 70’s. It has exploded since then. Although, most Thais don't eat arugula, many companies contract with farmers here to grow it in order to produce the seed to sell in the west. Contracting with farmers to grow seed is extremely tricky even if the climate is stable. In any given year, you want to contract with farmers at a variety of elevations and areas as insurance against heat waves, cold snaps, drought, etc. This year a Dutch company that produces the only arugula seed that stays in country, found that 90% of its seed was not viable. The plants were healthy and produced tons of seeds, and the seeds were marketed and sold, but only a tiny percentage grown at the highest elevations sprouted. Most packets contained no viable seed. Farmers growing the seed are required to keep temperature logs and when these were reviewed, it was clear the night time temperatures were outside the range where the seed would be viable. This is direct from a company employee.

This is about the fourth or fifth time I have encountered this scenario in Thailand in the last five years. The temperatures are rising and the seed companies are scrambling. About five years ago a French scientist/seed guy said, "I've been here ten years. Basically, we've been moving up the mountain every year."

I am confused by this set of statements.

How does growing in a greenhouse reduce night time temperatures? I always thought the purpose of a greenhouse was to increase temperatures in a cold climate.

I am also confused by the switch from 'fruiting' to 'viable seed'.

If the plants don't fruit, then there are no seeds at all - but you seem to be saying that plants are fruiting but the seeds produced aren't viable, which is different.

Lastly the commentary about various fields of seed plants not working out - this is interesting, but is this due to temperature or some other effect?

Other effects might include pollination - a fall in the number/quality/type of pollinators has a big effect on plant reproduction. Equally between GMO and monoculture crops - how does other GMO/wild pollen affect viability?

As for the temperature effects - I'm interested if you can point to any publications on this. High temperature effects on seeds - I've seen that myself in Central California, but a higher nighttime low having an impact - that's the first I've heard of this.

                      http://www.theguardian.com/commentis...change-deniers

This is written after the IPCC summary. He says the recent warming is "unprecedented".

But it is still only about 0.8C in the last 100 years or so.

Note also the last 100 years or so - at least some of that 0.8C is due to Little Ice Age recovery.

More importantly, the substance lying behind the IPCC spokesmodel paragraphs is showing that the 'settled science' matches poorly with reality.

As shown in the 'Climate Change' section:

The IPCC spokemodel paragraph, i.e. the Summary for Policy Makers - talks about 'extremely likely' and what not.

How credible does the above graph show IPCC's actual predictive capability to be?

Not traditional greenhouses of temperate zones. Open sides four feet up, plastic top with misted shade cloth reducing solar absorption in day leading to reduced nighttime temperatures.

First example with tomatoes is just to say that a small difference in temperatures can have a huge impact. When I first moved up here, a cold snap resulted in lows of about 52 F. With no heat, I delayed getting out of bed, but I didn’t think much more about it until I read the headline, “2000 Cattle in Province Die Due to Cold Weather.”

As for arugula, the way it was explained to me is higher nighttime temperatures lead to “incomplete pollination” whatever that specifically means, resulting in normal looking seed, but immature embryo. I have no ideas about the mechanics.

On a side note, can anyone link to a site that gives historical regional/local average monthly lows and highs?

Most of the observed warming has occured at night time , and in winter, consistent with what you are saying.

Tomatoes are not native to Thailand, which probably accounts for some of the difficulty.

How much warmer are the night time temperatures than 20 years ago?
