  • Sign of the Time? Putin on cover of Time everywhere but US

    http://communities.washingtontimes.c...ver-everywher/

Vladimir Putin is the man-about-Earth, let alone town, these days.

The most recent cover of TIME Magazine features a photo of him on its front cover, alongside the caption — rewritten with caps removed — “America’s weak and waffling. Russia’s rich and resurgent — and its leader doesn’t care what anybody thinks of him.”

This cover is only being published in TIME’s international editions, though. Here in the United States, a football player replaces Putin. Instead of the latter’s success, a story about compensating college athletes is the top story.

I was thinking more along the lines of some of the most outrageous Pravda stories during the Cold War: one spin outside of the Soviet Union, another inside.

Unlike agency planted stories in, say, the Mexican press, than quoted here as authentic.

The press exists to sell newspapers (now online content subscriptions)...it entertains, not informs ...

[And yes, I think the guy on the grassy knoll was also responsible for WT7 collapsing; I read that somewhere]

in economics, at least, appearance on time's cover has marked a top, e.g. the [in]famous "home $weet home" cover nailing the housing market top. so is it all downhill for putin now? [except in the u.s.?- e.g. gail collins suggested in a recent ny times column that putin intervene in the conflict between house republicans and washington democrats.]

If you really want to bring him down, put him on the cover of Sports Illustrated, picked to win the title.

It doesn't matter which title - it's the proven kiss of death.

If in fact we've seen the 'top' with Syria - at least the bombing part, then I think all of us here on iTulip will be happy.

The fact that Putin managed to wrong foot both Kerry and Obama is insignificant compared to a possible break in the tidal hate wave going around the Middle East these days ... and the US' role in it.

Of course, we all know just how likely Putin is to get a Peace prize despite actually pushing for peace.

Mortar Shell Hits Russian Embassy In Damascus, Three Diplomats Wounded

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 09/22/2013 - 09:23

Let's see here: the party attacking the embassy of Assad-supporting Russia in Damascus is a) the Syrian government or b) the local Al Qaeda-funded Islamist fanatics and Qatari mercenaries, aka "rebels"? Surely a YouTube clip will promptly emerge, confirming it was a).

we seen this pony run before . . .

Nato deliberately bombed the Chinese embassy in Belgrade during the war in Kosovo after discovering it was being used to transmit Yugoslav army communications. According to senior military and intelligence sources in Europe and the US the Chinese embassy was removed from a prohibited targets list after Nato electronic intelligence (Elint) detected it sending army signals to Milosevic's forces.

The story is confirmed in detail by three other Nato officers - a flight controller operating in Naples, an intelligence officer monitoring Yugoslav radio traffic from Macedonia and a senior headquarters officer in Brussels. They all confirm that they knew in April that the Chinese embassy was acting as a 'rebro' [rebroadcast] station for the Yugoslav army (VJ) after alliance jets had successfully silenced Milosevic's own transmitters.

Just another Lee Kuan Yew wannabe. But Putin doesn't deserve it. Look at the economic mess Russia is in right now. Time for China to take back Siberia?

                      Guns and economics don't mix.

Putin doesn't play nice with the other (political) boys and girls, so I doubt he's a member in good standing of the political class, but he's good for boosting ad revenue.
