For politicians, even abject failure is never enough reason to abandon a bad idea. It's encouraging that the public is overwhelmingly against bombing Syria, even though most of them are completely ignorant of the extent of our failure in Libya.

Diplomats have come under attack in Tripoli with the EU ambassador’s convoy ambushed outside the Corinthia hotel on the waterfront. A bomb also wrecked the French embassy.
At least they're spreading the love around.

Put two and two together. The US State Dept keeps turning formerly unaligned nations (Libya, soon to be Syria) or relatively stable nations that were US military industrial complex clients (Egypt) into chaotic, dysfunctional clients of the State Dept, NGOs, charity groups and other left aligned groups. The Egyptian military pulled off a counter-revolution due to their deep state and the secular elements and Christians realizing the military would be best for protecting them and maintaining some semblance of non-Caliphate style order before the US State Dept and Obama admin, which has vocally and materially supported the Muslim Brotherhood (public statements, could get their act together and stop them. These fights for clients are not just between Russia, China, and then the West. They are also between wings of the US government and interests.
