Now we're getting somewhere. Kerry, Clinton, Condoleeza Rice, it makes little difference. Just like, Rubin, Paulson, Geithner, it makes no difference. Rules/laws are signposts to these folks - point to them when you need then and ignore them when there inconvenient. And the Federal courts back them up!! The "social contract" has been officially breached for all to see since the AFC began, and now with that awareness we can see the hypocrisy and anti-democratic actions of the political class more clearly - to serve themselves and their masters, the corporatist plutocrats. Constitution, Bill of Rights, rule of LAW, sure that's nice and good when it doesn't get in the way of the "God's Work" that we elites need to do for the benefit of "all", but some things are just too important to worry about some silly laws ...

To be fair, Kerry is a limousine liberal. Not to be confused with an actual liberal or progressive.

Were he from a Southern state, he would be a Blue Dog Democrat - which is to say, a Republican who cannot accept the Republican label because of Lincoln.

On the other hand, he's from a liberal state. I think being a Republican from Massachusetts is tantamount to being a Republican from Georgia - in the Blue Dog sense.

If Kerry called himself a Republican - he would not have made Massachusetts Senator. Scott Brown was a big deal because there had not been a Republican Senator from Massachusetts since Henry Cabot Lodge in the 40s.

That's a full 2 generations.

theres one thing about MA politix ya gotta unnerstanz tho - they can be quite 'conservative' (fiscally) but yet still be really liberal when they want or need to be (esp the politcal class)

after growing up (k-12) there, the rather schizo politix starts to make sense - kinda like how it makes sense in other places i'm familiar with

ok - but that seems to contradict what i thot the blue dogs were all about: conservatives that were for the vietnam war, against the 'northern establishment' and preferred to keep the social contract the way it used to be...
and why they (in the south) went repub - sometime during/after the 60's ??

vs us 'yankee' northern new england (read: 'old NH') small-r types... (vs them, the 'new' NH types ;)

I'm not saying Blue Dog Democrats are identical in policy to Massachusetts Democrats.

I'm just noting that there are plenty of examples where theoretical ideological bent does not match actual behavior - that the label exists primarily for historical reasons as opposed to philosophical/behavioral ones.

The only reason the Blue Dogs are in the Democratic party is that historically, the South really didn't like Republicans after the Civil War and ReConstruction.

Equally there is a long history of 'Democrat' in Massachusetts - in this case more a label continuation than an opposition to Republicans.

After all, San Francisco/California has Pelosi and Feinstein...
