Thanks for mentioning that Woodsman. Through googling it I found this excellent film: http://youtu.be/hH6UynI5m7Y

British filmmaker Temujin Doran has released a new movie that is based on the book “The Death of the Liberal Class” by Truthdig columnist Chris Hedges. The film, titled “Obey,” explores the rise of the corporate state and the future of obedience in a world filled with unfettered capitalism, worsening inequality and environmental changes.

Saw a bit of this months back but can't say it held my interest. In sum it's a 60 minute montage of sometimes relevant images, Adam Curtis style, as backdrop to a milquetoast reading of the text.

I'd rather dive in myself and make my own mental montages. Or, at least hear Hedge's indignant growl reading his own words. I understand that I'm a cranky geezer and all that, but the strength of the book is I think less because of its polemical elements (and is it ever) but because of the many chapters providing background and history.

I think in the end this film, while undoubtedly introducing the ideas to a wider audience, ultimately ends up divesting them of context and diluting their impact. I promise I'm not being snarky and I appreciate you sharing. It's just that I find it a delicious irony that Hedges' best work would be undermined in the very same manner and by the very techniques he outlines in his next best work "Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle."
