Might as well worry about an asteroid.

I think a devastating solar flare is more likely to hit than a devastating asteroid. Then there is the possibility of a deliberate nuclear EMP attack.

An asteroid strike would be a real mess. I vote against it. The devastating flare and the EMP attack don't sound so bad -- at least they will put the NSA out of business.

Doesn't matter. If it happens, this world is finished. Might as well not even worry about it.

The world certainly survived the 1859 event; of course they were better prepared and not the wussy men of today

You're obviously an "unpatriotic" American. If you have nothing to hide from Big Brother then why would you care that the government listens to your every word?

People like you are a hindrance to the State, err uh... national security.

I'm reporting you to the Thought Police.

How much of the world was electrified back then? They weren't prepared for anything except the backwards way they lived back then. I envy them as much as they probably envied cave men.

It would be a terrible event where a billion plus died, and shortages were everywhere. It would be the worst event the world has seen, and billions would be clueless of what to do. It would not be the end of world however.

im not really worried about any of that. If it actually did happen, it would be devastating in the short term yeah, but its not like we couldn't rebuild the power grids or anything. It would take time, but things could eventually be rebuilt

You would probably die. And so would most of the people you know. Why even worry about it? Anyway, we are all maggot food soon enough. Might as well get used to the idea of being dead.

My...everyone is so joyously positive! And to think that this problem scared the living daylights out of me years ago...and it still hasn't happened. If I focused on that 'what if' mentality, I'd have died already from the fear induced stress level.

Still...it is nice that Congress is at least thinking about backstopping our hardware against a lightening strike, or whatever. And I have a large Faraday box to put my back-up devices in once I can afford to buy them, and am planning a windmill powered water supply (wind to mechanical kind). That, and my few months of food, and my limited ammo, however, will not protect me from a populace gone crazy with lack of everything! If YHVH decides to swipe the earth with a devastatingly massive solar flare, it just means He's putting off Armegeddon for a while as well, which, in watching the Middle East had already begun to make we wonder!

Such wonderful, practical and positive matters....hmmm....I think I will focus on today, and go out and smell the roses. They need deadheading anyway.

                          du`uude!!!

try think POSITIVE, why dont ya.

altho the solar flare thing would be a challenge - esp for those that directly depend on silicon-based stuff functioning (likely all of us at the point, cept fer maybe the amish) - and while i'd not want to have to deal with EMP attack - and as long as the asteroid isnt too big and dont direct hit the continent (america), most of us would likely survive - esp inland, where you are.

not sure i'm high enuf out here for the BIG tsunami tho - at el1500

Don't get me wrong. I am not worried about it. I don't think it will happen. I do, however, think it would destroy humanity if it did. That's okay, though. If it did, humans could at least say they didn't do it to themselves.

Regardless, one way or the other something is going to do humans in. Whether it is a solar flare, asteroids, EMPs, or whatever. This world is a sinking ship and people are the rats!

They're gonna get right on that, after they secure the border...

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
