Ties between China and Iceland have been growing. In April the small North Atlantic nation beceame the first European country to sign a free trade agreement with China.
The pact offered hope for its recession-battered economy, lowering tariffs on a range of goods and is expected to boost seafood and other exports from the remote Nordic state to the world's second-largest economy.
It also gave Beijing a leg up in its drive for expanded influence in the Arctic.
