  • Does Eric still post here?

Just wondering. The last major front page story is dated January 29, 2013.

It seems like a different world than it did then.

I agree. We are moving into an increasingly bizarre future at an accelerating rate. And now this from NASA: asteroid 1998 QE2 will pass within four million miles of Earth on May 31. The asteroid is supposedly covered with a black, sticky substance. Now we know what ET's do with their accumulated Keynesian debt. Just roll it up into a big c--pball and shoot it off into someone else's solar system and let them deal with it a million years later. Talk about kicking the can down the road; how about across the galaxy. I hope this isn't the asteroid NASA wants to capture and bring into Earth orbit. Of course Krugman would say that that much debt would make us all fabulously wealthy. If you consider million year old c--p wealth.

He's indicated in a few recent posts in the select section that he is well along working on the next piece of analytic work for the site. EJ's not a newsletter writer publishing at regular scheduled intervals.

Really, part of me is just wondering if/when the flash banner ads for EJs book will come down.

I don't even mind if he leaves a picture ad up forever.

But the flash banner causes the page to load slow / crash, and is simply a resource hog.

Does the book really have to spin?

I suppose I do navigate the ol' fashioned way. Thanks to you & jk. But I also read often without logging in, unless I have something to say.

When one is not logged in, one gets the spinning book flash animation on every forum and in every thread, even on this very page.

Then there's navigating on smartphone. It requires login to read more than the first post in any thread. Granted, I have only recently, and curmudgeonly, accepted the smartphone. And my big, dumb fingers don't type so well on it..

So there have been a couple of times where it would have been nice to be able to browse and read without having to log in.

If the numbers of members and guests at the bottom of the screen are right, there are 8-12 times the number of people reading who are not logged in as those who are at any given time.

But I'm just spitting out ideas off the top of my head anyhow.

Take them for what you will.

                        ....
                        +1

i dont mind login to see the boss's stuff tho.
and/or the rest of the braintrust's rant/rave/debate/jousting etc
if fer no other reason than to catch the 1-Liners...

the 'newposts' function at top/line2 of the 'dashboard' is likely the easiest way to see whats going on (and by whom)
then clik on the poster's handle/link and select 'view forum posts'

annoying ads are punishment for not registering & logging in, no?

yes, I have pretty much tried not to use my smart phone except when I have no other choice.

i use the chrome browser with the adblock plus extension. no spinning books, even on the homepage.

but it IS a pain to try to access the site on my phone.
