This is the reason, that I believe the solution proposed by Tom Greco is better.

Power is not so easily given up. It takes men of superior ethics to protect the welfare of the ignorant and ungrateful.

We must make a fundamental choice and choose what side are we on.

What you say is indeed true.

But since the Federal Government has the law on its side -- that it is the only entity that can mint coinage to be used as currency -- that this kind of act can be pulled off.

The "Money as Information" concept proposed by Greco could be used (just as currently Hedge Funds are outside the preview of regulation!) Of course if the methodology is successful, it is likely to have a backlash -- however, the concept of a clearinghouse is so well accepted, that this methodology may be harder to fight.

i noticed greco endorses prosper.com on his site. why can't prosper.com expand to include a prosper currency for payments outside the site? if they don't call the unit a "us dollar" they stay within the law. then prosper becomes a legal credit clearing center bank. what do you think?

            Rajiv,

The systems are in place, e.g., e-gold, goldmoney, whatever. The conundrum is operating the systems for the benefit of the whole community. The temptation to appropriate the system is just too great. In a sense, the protagonists that conceptualized and executed the actions to form the Fed were indeed evil-genius. It was their mastery of crafty language and deceit that enabled them to thwart their opposition, while if they had been truthful and honest, none of the community would have them achieve it, not because of mutual concern for the welfare of the community, but because each would have wanted the spoils for himself.

So here we are, the opportunity to free ourselves is almost at hand; do you think we can free ourselves when the system goes into contraction? When there is blood on the streets as honest men are made criminals for trying to feed their families?

            Time will tell…

In Ron Paul Coins, Federal Agents Don't Trust

                http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-t...l?hpid=topnews

affidavit, an FBI special agent states that he is investigating NORFED for federal violations including "uttering coins of gold, silver, or other metal," "making or possessing likeness of coins," mail fraud, wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy. "The goal of NORFED is to undermine the United States government's financial systems by the issuance of a non-governmental competing currency for the purpose of repealing the Federal Reserve and Internal Revenue Code," he states.

looking more and more like they violated a bunch of laws for years. we may not agree with the laws but... there they are. ron paul also wants to get rid of the fed and irs too but can as president go after them through the legal system. can't imagine he'd get this done in one term, tho.

the wash post has been very critical of the liberty dollar guys, cut them no slack at all...

'Liberty Dollars' Can Buy Users A Prison Term, U.S. Mint Warns

True story, phony money. So says the U.S. Mint, which would like to remind Liberty Dollar users that since the United States already has its own currency, the only thing Liberty Dollars buy in these parts is a jail term.

at least no one was killed by the heroic cops, a la Waco or Ruby Ridge.

I do wonder how much firepower they took along, "just in case"
