      That was over 40 years ago and it looks like the good times - downhill ever since . . . .

        i wouldn't call theoretically discovering a corpse with a syringe in its arm next to a bottle of potassium exactly "untraceable."

          Well, earlier in the movie George C Scott explains to the hospital pschologist exactly how he planned to cover his tracks, as he'd been contemplating suicide for quite some time. So, I expect if he would have gone thru with it he would have discarded the evidence such that it would not be discovered.

          Found the scene in question (starting about 7mins into clip #2 and continues into clip #3)...
