        If anything has changed from back then it might be the recognition that in every region of the world there are nations with sovereign debt loads that are too great to ever be repaid (in the conventional sense)...and therefore there will be a debt reduction, either in the form of an organized debt forgiveness or a dis-organized default. Take your pick. Gillian Tett and Hugh Hendry recognized that early (as did EJ in his postings a few years back about the lack of national income surplus to service the debts).

          when did Sachs come to these conclusions? seems to me he's been an insider for a long time, and why is he just saying this now, stuff that's been obvious for at least the last 4 years to anyone paying attention - maybe he got snubbed for some job and is now simply promoting himself now as an outsider. Still, this is a good thing.
