It's not really "news" per se, but I just had to post this. I guess when your economy is in the doldrums for 20 years, you'll do just about anything to start a new bubble

    Idiotic.

The schoolgirls in Japan have had extremely high hemlines for at least the 15 years I've been around Japan. I distinctly remember wondering how they didn't freeze vital parts off as many would run around with a gigantic muffler, a flaring overcoat, and a miniskirt with bare legs (no hose) even in single digit Celsius weather.

For that matter, if hemlines matter so much, then a few Friday or Saturday nights sitting at the Fixx in the Bellagio watching the club girls walk by will give you all the 'indicators' you want. The fashion recently seems to be showing the color of your underwear ... even while standing up.

      That's cute.

What this demonstrates for westerners is the difference in Japanese Psyche compared to the West.

Who could imagine a girl band here singing about the economy?

To be fair, Shania Twain did a song on the economy:

Update: I believe these are Korean baseball players not Japanese, either way its funny. It even extends to their baseball leagues: http://www.milleronsports.com/2011/0...nny-fight.html

Korean baseball players are required to hold one leg up and hop while aggressively arguing

Apparently it is an Asian schoolyard game.....

Oh, those crazy Japanese! For more brow raising Japanese oddities, simply search the Internet meme "meanwhile in japan" (direct link)- warning: may not be safe to do at work!

I saw a bio on Ms. Twain and found a new respect for her.
She grew up in a hardscrabble situation in rural Canada, worked in a logging camp while caring for siblings.
She knows how to use a chainsaw and a rifle, and she can go nose-to-nose with a lumberjack in a shouting match.

                    Impressive!

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Okay now I just might be convinced that the japanese people will engage in a financial kamikaze run by dumping their whole net worth into JGB's. They are just crazy enough to do it

Again, only from my US business point of view, Japan is toast. Sanyo, gone. Panasonic their sister company bought them and they're in trouble. Sharp, it's so ugly they might not make it. I don't know about other Japanese companies but this is a reasonable sampling and if I was an investor there, I'd run.
