The English language is sometimes subtle and when one, (that would be me), misuses it or is at least a bit sloppy, the meaning of a statement can be mistaken. What I meant to say was make do which is to get along with what you have available. Make due, is sometimes associated with a thing that is sufficient. To make do is to simply deal with your circumstance. To use your example, I would like a ride in a car but walking there will make do. I would like to have electricity but I'll make do with a candle. I would like to have 9 acres but 1 will make do.
