  • FBI executes search warrant at The Scooter Store

I've always wondered about these folks:

Executing a search warrant, federal agents Wednesday swarmed the New Braunfels headquarters of The Scooter Store, one of the nation's largest suppliers of power wheelchairs and scooters.

Authorities wouldn't comment on the reason for the raid, but a source familiar with the investigation said officials were looking for details of how The Scooter Store bills for its equipment.
The Scooter Store recently has drawn scrutiny for receiving millions in Medicare overpayments from 2009 to 2011.

    Excellent!

My cynical self says they will settle for a few pennies on the dollar. Of course, this could be one of those cases where they make an example out of somebody.

Here is the type of crap that I suspect:

Corzine may [not] be blacklisted from futures industry by regulator

      I think they're serious about medicare/medicaid fraud.

      Recently, in New Jersey:

      http://www.nj.com/suburbannews/index...ounty_sus.html

Take a look at the article, but for even a better view, follow the link on the article to the justice.gov page, a few of the quotes from the people who were charged are shocking.

I am in this industry in NJ as a business owner (my “moonlighting” as engineering doesn’t pay enough for retirement, at least for me).
At a meeting last year with one of the HMO’s (and don’t get me started about them) and the agency-provider community, I couldn’t help but to notice a few of the attendees who looked like they were dressed for a date at a high end restaurant, or more, for new years eve. Think Bling x Ostentatious x Arrogance, and I’m not tawking about “jersey girls”, but jersey girls who think they are princesses.

This person complained about the rigorous demands the HMOs were placing on their “operations”. These folks were clueless of how they stood out…..something just wasn’t right here. In their response, the speaker from the HMO even alluded to how certain actions taken by an agency he wouldn’t name (but in hindsight, he was clearly referring to this person’s agency) couldn’t be possible….in other words, he smelled fraud.

Turns out, the feds were already on to them.

Good thing. It is a tough industry with ever slimming profit margins (as I’ve discussed this biz elsewhere on this board), but getting rid of the people who are stealing tax payer dollars and not providing service is a step which allows the firms that play by the rules to make a living.
And given how controlling costs and budget cuts are at the forefront of every state and federal client I interact with in my day time job as a consultant – I think that we will continue to see prosecutions of fraud by the private sector, and mostly if those private sector businesses aren’t TBTP (too big to prosecute).

otoh, i know a doc who spent 10's of thousands on lawyers and went through hell for months on a medicare audit; came out perfectly clean [but with his pockets cleaned by the lawyers and he put through misery].

Surprised it took them so long. I'd see their commercials and think "Medicare Fraud." Seemed pretty blatant.

Yep. 2013's version of Martha Stewart.

The Scooter Store should have put Corzine on their Board. Always helps to have some protection...

John Corzine walking free is the special interest litmus test for me.

Him walking around free(or is that flying around in a G-V free?) makes the US little different from Russia in that specific regard
