In the big picture FL is winning with no state income tax- CA will soon become the France of the US.

An ex OMB guy thinks CA bankruptcy could trigger a run on the US dollar. It will just show every one how bankrupt our system is.

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Have had my Honda Accord since 2004 with 88k miles about 30 mpg and no mechanical issues. My OC neighbors could not figure out why i got accord when mercedes benz is the status symbol. Cost of ownership is excellent!
Though I have been driving rental cars and like the Chevrolet products like impala and cruse and am impressed with the handling and comfort too

Re: Gas Prices Rising
Still on a roll :-) Product demand up, product inventories declining, crude oil input inventories rising, refinery utilization down. No relief in sight...
US cracks continue to post new 5-year highs:
- Average US gasoline cracks rose +17% and average US diesel cracks rose +6% last week as the Gulf Coast and Mid-Con posted strong gains. In total, average US product cracks rose +12% to US$19.86/bbl last week.
- The WTI-Brent spread averaged -US$22.01/bbl last week, much wider than the previous week’s average of -US$20.57/bbl.
DOE inventory report- The DOE inventory report was bullish for refiners, with larger than expected draws in gasoline and distillate inventories.
- US gasoline demand registered 8.40mb/d last week, raising the 4-week moving average to 8.44mb/d. The 4-week average is +4.4% compared to 2012 and -2.2% below the 5-year average.
- Total US crude oil inventories rose +0.6mbbls (vs. +2.2 consensus) to 372.2mbbls. Crude stocks are +9.8% compared to last year’s level and +11.6% vs the 5-year average.
- Gasoline inventories fell -0.8mbbls (vs. +0.5 consensus) to 234.0mbbls and are +0.5% vs 2012 levels and +1.4% vs the 5-year average.
- Distillate inventories fell -3.7mbbls (vs. -1.8 consensus) to 125.9mbbls and are -12.4% vs 2012 levels and -13.7% vs the 5-year average.
- Refinery utilization fell to 83.8% (vs. 84.2% consensus) from 84.2% the previous week.

Re: Gas Prices Rising
For a practical, low cost of ownership car, it is hard to beat a Toyota corolla or a honda civic.
For toyotas, the parts are fairly expensive. But you hardly ever need to buy them.
People used to think the civics were a bit more peppy in their handling.
During 2003-2007, we had a used Ford Focus. It worked out well. It had only minor mechanical issues, which cost a pittance to fix.

definition of "crack"
The meaning of "crack" might be obvious to some, but to me it was some kind of cocaine.
Supposedly the "crack" is the difference in price between the crude oil and the gasoline or diesel that you could make from it.
I don't know how the refinery costs get figured into that.
