I also dislike being legally required to buy private sector insurance.
An earmarked medical care tax would be rational and acceptable.

Is there a link I can listen to without joing Rush? I don't want to join his group.

As far as the 105 year old woman, the family is free to spend all the money they want on her.
Tax funds have to used on some rational, objective basis.

I feel like not signing up, not paying the fines, not co-operating at all. If I have to clean out my bank accounts and stuff my money under the mattress, quit my job and work under the table... whatever.

This is finally the "up" with which I will no longer "put". Guess it's time to stop hoping things will get better, and get that passport. I don't want to move, dammit. I just want to be left alone!

Is Obamacare really gonna fly? Or will it fail SPECTACULARLY?
Last year with the $5M gift tax exclusion we transferred about 1/2 of my mothers estate to me (only child) as a tax-free gift. The rest is about 60/40 IRA/regular brokerage account. The whole basis behind doing this was to avoid the Medicare pullback if she was hospitalized or similar for some very long period of time. While Medicare has clearly paid out much more on her than she ever paid in, the same for SocSec, I personally doubt I will ever see a penny of what I have contributed. In fact, if they would allow me to stop paying and opt out I would do so in a heartbeat.

If you have an estate to leave, you should either look at putting it in trust (assuming it is large enough) or convert it to transferrable assets like metals and cash, and just hand it out in person at some point in time.

If money is an issue, you should consider a move to some much cheaper Central American country like Cost Rica or Equador, where your Social Security check will go further. If it is large enough, you can get a pensioista status in CR and get cheap healthcare there as well.
