Another tie in is the cartel's influence over what gets taught in the business and econ departments. Bill Black has talked about this. If you just listen to some of these profs at Univ of Chicago econ deparment, you can tell theres a problem. "Bubbles don't exist" "markets are rational" "people are rational" .
The next thing would be "financial markets are self regulating"
The banks endow chairs and hire proff's as consultants. You can see where this is going.
On a gold bug site, I saw some statistic that nearly every academic economics journal had 1 or more editors who had been on the federal reserve board. So you can bet they are not going to come out with any ideas critical of the system in a fundamental way.
