Even Children can be sacrificed. Do you believe sanctions can work?

The Friends World Committee for Consultation in London estimates that a quarter-million children bear arms in the world. Conservative estimates are that 95,000 child soldiers were killed during the Iran-Iraq war.

It was in the interests of both the United States and the Soviet Union to let the Iran/Iraq War drag on in stalemate for as long as possible. Aid to both sides was geared accordingly.

The stakes for each of the belligerants were of the highest order - everything was at risk in a total defeat.

Western statistics of this kind should be taken with caution as they often smack of "they don't value life like we do" propaganda, which facilitates domestic acceptance of views like Albright's that half a million Iraqi dead children was "worth it", dead not fighting as child soldiers - which the US refuses to sign off on - but through US actions.
