  • TRILLIONS of diamonds!

    Well, industrial ones at least.

    http://www.livescience.com/23280-rus...-diamonds.html

Jewelry diamonds are really worth about 1/10th to 1/20th what they sell for... because the supply, and therefore the price, is manipulated... Unauthorized mining? We kill you. Too many diamonds? We throw most of them in a vault.
On the other hand, it is a wedding after all, so something expensive is warranted...

Always knew this, the hard part now is to convince the one you will marry that diamonds are artificially supported and have little value beyond the social appeal. I presume that is a losing battle.........

The same is true of the bacon industry. Edward Bernays the inventor of propaganda virtually, decribes in this video how he "invented" bacon as the #1 product for Americans to consume in the morning. He did this to collect a nice fee from Beech-Nut company.. and guess what that companys #1 product was? Bacon!

To be fair, bacon is delicious and diamonds are not. I do not think bacon needs much encouragement to be a staple.

It is horrible for you and especially at breakfast.

Is it really all that terrible? I admit it isn't great for you, but it is hardly the equivalent of a twinky.

It is much better for you the the pile sugar that most people eat. Also, you won't be hungry in an hour.

My morning breakfast consists of 1) either fruit or 2) a banana and a Kind or Cliff Bar.

I really never liked most breakfast food that is greasy and sloppy.

I don't blame you for that; however, bacon really isn't that bad for you. The biggest problem is the sodium, but if you balance that out for the rest of your day, you should be fine consuming it.

"bacon really isn't that bad for you"... in other news, 75% of Americans will be considered obese by 2020.

Thanks, but I'll take my breakfast advice from just about any other country. I still remember when I first moved to Canada as a kid, we lived for a year with a friend of my mother who was morbidly obese (over 300 lbs, 5 foot 5). Having never eaten bacon in my life before, 3 or 4 times a week I was now eating it for breakfast "because breakfast is the most important meal of the day", and "here in America we eat bacon and eggs for breakfast"... oh in between it was box loads of sugar coated processed cereal.

Take nutritional advice from very healthy people. In a way, it's just like taking financial advice from rich successful people. It just makes good sense. ;-)

Like all things, take it in moderation. There is nothing wrong with bacon when consumed in a responsible manner.

I read all of this thread but this comment really got me chuckling....

....sort of related, this weekend I watched an old episode of "Cooking with Julia and Jacques" or whatever it was callled, the PBS seriies that featured Julia Child and Jacques Pepin, I really enjoy their banter and chemistry....and in terms of things in moderation, they commented about the fat avoided by eating tuna canned in water, vs tuna canned in oil, and all of the flavor lost when it is canned in water, all to avoid 3 grams of fat....

Everything in moderation, and sometimes, that includes moderation. :-)

Bacon in the South seems superior to West Coast bacon.

That is definitely a notable quotable!

Adeptus, as an active member of this website I would expect that you might be a bit more cynical toward conventional health dogma.

And your chart has no correlation to any specific food. It does indicate that the Standard American Diet is horrifically bad. But is there a correlation with bacon consumption? No.

                              You might consider this.

Animal fat consumption is not the problem.
